Senator David Perdue Holds Small Business Roundtable In Smyrna
Thursday, August 20th, 2020
U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) today met with Georgia small business owners and nonprofit organizations that received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to help bridge the gap during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The “Business During Coronavirus” roundtable, hosted by Vinings Bank in Smyrna, included representatives from AMK Energy, The School Box, Wade Ford, Sojourn Church, and Brokers Unlimited. Each of these organizations received a PPP loan through Vinings Bank.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Senator Perdue. “When the COVID-19 crisis shut the economy down, we had to make sure that a temporary liquidity crisis did not become an insolvency crisis. The Paycheck Protection Program was designed to get relief into the hands of small businesses as quickly as possible. Community banks, like Vinings Bank, immediately stepped up to help distribute these relief funds and 1.5 million Georgia jobs have been saved as a result. This is an unprecedented time for all of us, but Georgians are resilient, and we will get through this together.”
“As one of the remaining community banks in the Metro Atlanta area, Vinings Bank understands the importance of small businesses and the contribution they make to our community,” said Clark Hungerford, President of Vinings Bank. “By being able to make over 700 PPP loans for over $195 million, we were happy to support these businesses in these uncertain times when they needed help. Less than half of the customers we made loans to were not Vinings Bank customers. We appreciate Senator Perdue taking his valuable time to come and meet with some of our customers to see how the PPP affected their businesses.”
According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), 1.5 million Georgia jobs have been saved by the PPP and roughly $14.7 billion in loans were provided as a life-line to Georgia small businesses.
