Today, ChooseATL, the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s next-generation talent initiative, launched WHY I VOTE ATL, a new campaign to rally participation and early voting among the region’s Gen Z and millennial voters for the 2020 presidential election.

This election cycle, Gen Z and millennials will account for 41% of active and eligible voters in metro Atlanta – over 1.6 million people. A substantial increase in the turnout rate for young Americans in the 2018 election and a visible surge in activism over recent months are encouraging trends. However, concerns over the safety and ease of voting during the COVID-19 pandemic continue to cast a shadow over predictions of young voter turnout.

“ChooseATL reflects the diverse, next-generation talent who are becoming tomorrow’s leaders across our region. We hope to energize these leaders through the WHY I VOTE ATL campaign and give them tools to lift their voices in a powerful way,” said Deisha Barnett, chief brand and communications officer and head of diversity and inclusion for the Metro Atlanta Chamber and ChooseATL.

WHY I VOTE ATL builds on the current momentum and simplifies the voting process for young voters. By using the digital and social channels that multicultural Gen Z and millennial voters use most, the regional campaign will provide easy-to-understand voting resources, shareable social graphics and inspiring content from next-gen leaders sharing their “why I vote” stories.

“I vote for those who can’t,” said Mary-Kate Starkel, Director of Development at redefinED atlanta. “I vote for my daughters and future generations. I vote to support public schools and the future of Atlanta.”
