Online Monthly Meeting of Georgia Society of Professional Engineers
Monday, October 5th, 2020
The public expects much of local government utilities. Public water distribution, storm water management and waste water processing were significant 20th century public health measure successes. Managing the infrastructure and planning for growth and stainability are herculean tasks affecting the local public health and economic wellbeing.
Nick Ammons, PE, RLS, Assistant Director of the Fulton County Water Resources will address the October 12th live online monthly meeting of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers Atlanta Metro Chapter. He will be presenting on Fulton County Public Works Operations, via the GSPE YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/GSPEng starting at 7:00 PM. The discussion will cover the challenges of the day-to-day Public Works Department operations and some ongoing and upcoming engineering projects. The meeting presentation will be recorded and available for later viewing. The presentation, like the previous presentations, will qualify for a required professional development hour (PDH). Currently registered professional engineers, those engineers aspiring to become PEs, and others engaged in engineering would benefit from the presentation. Members of the general public are also welcomed to learn about technology, engineering and public welfare.
Mr. Nick Ammons, PE, has served as the Fulton County Public Works Deputy Director since 2010. Prior to his current role managing the Development Services, he led the county water distribution, waste water collection, and storm water management efforts. He has had responsibility for department budgeting, planning, staffing, compliance with regulatory requirements and engineering standards, customer service and complaint management. A retired U.S. Navy Reserve Captain, he holds a BS of Engineering (Civil Sanitary) from Vanderbilt University and has graduate course work in Sanitary Engineering from Georgia Tech. Mr. Ammons first became a PE in 1977 and is a Registered Land Surveyor. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Water Environment Federation, and the Georgia Association of Water Professionals.
The GSPE Atlanta Metro Chapter meetings are open to engineering professionals, students, and other interested members of the public. The meetings normally take place on the second Monday of each month, September through June. Normally, the meetings start with F2F networking at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner and the speaker. With the current situation the next few monthly meetings, including the October 12th meeting will only be online through the GSPE YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/GSPEng, starting at 7:00. Many engineers enjoy the presentations as well as earn a required Professional Development Hour.
