Stanley M. Fineman, MD Receives Prestigious Gold Headed Cane Award from ACAAI
Thursday, November 5th, 2020
Dr. Stanley Fineman of Atlanta Allergy & Asthma — the largest allergy practice in Georgia — has been chosen as the 2020 recipient of the Gold Headed Cane Award by the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI). This is the most prestigious award the ACAAI offers as it recognizes professional achievement. ACAAI is a professional medical association of more than 6,000 allergist-immunologists and allied health professionals. Dr. Fineman will formally receive the award during the 2020 ACAAI Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held virtually Nov. 13-15.
“As I continue to dedicate my life to a profession I truly believe in, this honor certainly ranks as a career highlight,” says Dr. Fineman. “Being an active participant in the ACAAI has been both professionally and personally rewarding. I am humbled to receive this recognition from such a distinguished group of colleagues.”
Dr. Fineman has been an active participant in numerous ACAAI committees dating back to 1982. He served on the important Practice Parameters Task Force helping to develop best practice guidelines for allergists. He was on the ACAAI Board of Regents for more than 12 years and was the 2011-2012 president of ACAAI. In recent years, Dr. Fineman served on the Board of Directors for the World Allergy Organization. He continues in his role as editor in chief of the publication Allergy Watch and recently has been a co-host for the podcast “Allergy Talk.”
The tradition of the Gold Headed Cane dates back to the 1600s when Dr. John Radcliffe, the personal physician to King William III, began the ritual of passing the cane to a successor who was considered the greatest English physician at the time. This concept is still used today by many medical schools and specialty societies to recognize a physician who symbolizes the pursuit of the highest standards of scientific excellence and integrity. The award serves as an inspiration to younger doctors and encourages them to cultivate character that earns the respect and goodwill of colleagues and the profession at large.
Dr. Fineman has been a practicing allergist/immunologist in Atlanta since 1978. He sees patients in Atlanta Allergy & Asthma’s Kennestone and East Cobb offices.
