Leadership of the U.N World Food Programme, the UPS Foundation and the World Food Program USA will discuss their emergency response to Covid-19 and how the private sector supports such humanitarian efforts during a Nov. 10 briefing hosted by the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. The complimentary event will be held online from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.

The World Food Programme, recipient of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, is the logistics backbone of the humanitarian community’s global response to Covid-19, delivering support through a network of hubs, passenger and cargo airlinks, and medevac services.

Since late January, the World Food Programme has dispatched more than 77,000 cubic meters of cargo (enough to fill more than 30 Olympic-sized swimming pools) to 169 countries, or 85 percent of the world, to support governments and health partners responding to Covid-19.

In 2019, 135 million people suffered from severe hunger. The World Food Programme estimates that number could increase by 80 percent to 270 million by the end of 2020 due to Covid-19.
