Berman Capital Advisors Celebrates Ten-Year Anniversary
Tuesday, December 15th, 2020
Berman Capital Advisors, a leader in wealth management, celebrates 10 years in business. In the first decade, Berman Capital, which focuses on high-net worth individuals and family offices, has grown to manage approximately $3 billion in assets under management serving more than 200 clients across the country with a team of 30+ employees.
Creating Legacy
Berman Capital thinks beyond short-term gains. Some of the firm’s differentiators are unmatched client service, dedication to investment research, specifically in alternative investments, and a passion for giving to the community. Berman Capital employees share their clients’ desires to live well, give back, and pass on not only their wealth, but also their values to the generations that follow. They are dedicated to helping clients define, create and live a life rich in meaning.
Berman Capital’s services go beyond traditional investment guidance. They collaborate to drive strategies for estate planning, tax planning and financing options. As a fiduciary operating independently, the firm's investment recommendations and advice is solely based on what is in the best interest of the client.
Unmatched Talent
In just 10 short years Berman Capital has assembled a team of employees and attracted talent from major organizations and firms such as Goldman Sachs, Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, and more. What every member of the Berman Capital team has in common is dedication to best-in-class client service.
“From day one to year 10, we’ve always strived to be our clients’ first call,” said Justin Berman, Founder and CEO of Berman Capital Advisors. “When starting out, I always wanted to create a firm where my family was investing alongside our clients. At Berman Capital, we are sitting on the same side of the table, a family working with other families.”
The financial services industry is still primarily dominated by men. Looking at Berman Capital’s team roster, most of the team is female with key leadership roles like CIO, COO, and CFO being held by women. “The more diverse leadership we have brings diversity of thought,” said Berman. “We’re going to continue to build upon our diversity. I might not be the smartest person in the room, but I want to have the smartest room.”
Geographic Growth
Berman Capital is headquartered in Atlanta; however, as the firm’s client base has geographically diversified, they have begun to put down roots in additional markets. 2020 marked a new office in Austin, Texas and a Midwest hub in Chicago.
In Atlanta, Berman Capital has relocated its headquarters to 3445 Peachtree Road and built a home base that encourages collaboration and comfortability. The approximately 8,000 square-foot space is a complete open floor plan. The new office space has added additional meeting areas – including seven conference rooms and a café that can fit the full workforce – to provide additional room for meetings with clients or all-team trainings.
Future forward
What is in store for the next 10 years? Aside from expanding geographically, the firm strives to continue innovating on service offerings and expanding capabilities to “put a fence around the family,” looking at areas like tax and trust to fully support the needs of current and future clients.
Kelly Downs, the first employee and now COO of Berman Capital Advisors, has had a front row seat to the company’s growth. “I chose to come to Berman Capital because I wanted to be a part of building something that didn’t exist. Justin has really put his blood, sweat and tears into building the firm and as a team we are all boots on the ground. We all get the chance to be very hands-on when it comes to client service and that’s something you just don’t get at a big firm as an employee or as a client.”
