On Friday, April 9, noon-1:00 p.m., the Georgia Archives’ Lunch and Learn live event will be available to the public through Microsoft Teams. Atlanta from Below: Exploring the History of Underground and the Railroad Gulch will be presented by architect, author, and photographer Jeffrey Morrison.

Beneath the streets of Atlanta lies a mysterious realm of seemingly abandoned industrial spaces that are nevertheless rich with history. What is this place, how did it get to be this way, and what does it tell us about who we are as a city? Inspired by his popular Unseen Underground walking tour, Jeffrey will reveal the unexpected history of this often-overlooked part of the city. For over twelve years, he has been giving free walking tours to the curious and adventurous. Stories of the Zero Milepost, Union Depot and Terminal Station, Underground Atlanta, the Omni and more will be illustrated with historic maps and photographs paired with contemporary photography from his book Atlanta Underground: History from Below.

Jeffrey is an architect, author and photographer with a Masters of Architecture degree from Tulane University. He is currently a practicing architect at Goode Van Slyke Architecture. His architectural projects span a range of building types, usually in civic or educational settings, and tend to be inspired by contextualism, materiality, and creating a sense of place. He has taught design studios at the Kennesaw State University School of Architecture and built a sculptural installation for the inaugural Art on the Beltline. He has lived in the historic neighborhoods of Atlanta since 1996.

The link for the live event will also be posted on the Georgia Archives’ Facebook page on Friday morning, April 9.  Microsoft Teams currently supports these browsers: Internet Explorer II, Microsoft Edge, RS2 or later, the latest version of Chrome, and the latest version of Firefox.
