Atlanta Children’s Shelter Hosts Annual Women's Giving Luncheon

The Atlanta Children's Shelter (ACS) will host its annual Women's Giving Luncheon on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. The Luncheon connects, empowers, and inspires executive leaders in Atlanta's business community to make an impact through philanthropy. This year, the event will again be held virtually out of an abundance of precaution due to the global pandemic.
The Women's Giving Luncheon recognizes the Achiever and Legacy Honorees, former ACS clients who achieved self-sufficiency with the Atlanta Children's Shelter's assistance. The 2021 Luncheon honors Achievers Quachell Peele and Mackenzie Phillips and Legacy Honoree Monique Niare. Guests will hear testimonials from the honorees about their journeys to overcoming homelessness. "While the honorees' profiles speak volumes about their situations, there are simply no words that can succinctly express the flood of challenges they faced as they weathered the storm of homelessness," says Mellony Gaston, Director of Social Services at ACS. "We are all proud and privileged to share in their shining moment." Peele was homeless with one daughter when she came to ACS. Today, Peele remains permanently housed and employed and recently celebrated her one-year work anniversary in the IT field. Phillips and her two children were homeless when she enrolled at ACS. Phillips is now gainfully employed as a customer service representative and has maintained permanent housing for four years. Niare was homeless with three children when she arrived at ACS. Since 2015, Niare attained her master's degree, secured permanent housing while being a single parent, and published a book.
In addition to recognizing the Achiever and Legacy Honorees, the Luncheon will recognize and celebrate a milestone service anniversary for the Shelter; this year's theme is "Mission in Action – 35 Years of Impact."
