Atlanta Children’s Shelter Hosts Annual Women's Giving Luncheon
Thursday, April 22nd, 2021
The Atlanta Children's Shelter (ACS) will host its annual Women's Giving Luncheon on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. The Luncheon connects, empowers, and inspires executive leaders in Atlanta's business community to make an impact through philanthropy. This year, the event will again be held virtually out of an abundance of precaution due to the global pandemic.
This year's Luncheon is especially meaningful in that it is also a celebration of the Shelter's 35 years of service to Atlanta's homeless community. The event will recognize the individuals and organizations that played a vital role in the founding of ACS. The Shelter was founded by the Junior League of Atlanta (JLA) and given a home at North Avenue Presbyterian Church (NAPC). "When the Junior League founded the Shelter, they did so as a demonstration of its perpetual interest in the welfare of women and children with the goals to serve more children, strengthen family involvement, and more effectively combat homelessness," says Sandra Holiday, ACS Executive Director. "We never waiver from this."
The 2021 Luncheon will include a Founder's message from Bill and Carolyn McClatchey, who are endeared by many as the founding mother and father of the Atlanta Children's Shelter. Carolyn was the Junior League of Atlanta President from 1985-86, and her husband, Bill, was the Chair of Deacons at North Avenue Presbyterian Church at the time. Together, Bill and Carolyn were the catalysts for the founding of the Atlanta Children's Shelter on the campus of North Avenue Presbyterian Church. It was a "large endeavor by a lot of people," shared Carolyn, to provide women and children with access to basic necessities such as education, healthcare, childcare, job skills, and mental health services.
Guests will also hear personal testimonials from the Achiever and Legacy Honorees about their journeys out of homelessness to self-sufficiency with the assistance of the Atlanta Children's Shelter. Registration for the event is now open at https://tinyurl.com/5v97ayxe, and there is no cost to attend.
