Georgia History Class at the Archives Registration Open

Register today for free monthly Georgia history classes offered at the Georgia Archives for grades 8 through 12. Siblings in grades 6 and 7 may also attend if accompanied by an adult. The classes will start Thursday, August 5, 2021, and end on May 5, 2022. We will begin with Georgia’s founding as a colony and end with post-World War II Georgia. In this class, students and family members will learn about the role that Georgia played in major historic statewide and national events. 

The classes will be held on the first Thursday of the month at the Georgia Archives from 10:00 a.m. until noon with a break for lunch and then from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunches may be eaten in the Patron Lounge adjacent to the classroom. The Archives is located at 5800 Jonesboro Road, Morrow. 

Registration will be limited, and social distancing maintained.  

The classes will be a combination of lecture, PowerPoint, discussion, short videos, and examination of facsimiles of documents housed at the Georgia Archives. Visits to the Original Documents Reading Area (ODRA) to view documents discussed in the classes will be given at the end of the second half of the class. 

For those who attend every session, a certificate of completion will be awarded on the final day of the Georgia history class in May.
