Tuesday, June 8th, 2021
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ FY22 budget was unanimously adopted by the Atlanta City Council. The Mayor’s budget is grounded in equitable growth, as well as comprehensive recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This budget reflects the resilience of Atlanta—simultaneously making significant investments in public safety, investing in our transportation infrastructure, building on our Administration’s equity commitments and recovering from an unprecedented global pandemic,” said Mayor Bottoms. “Over the past year, the City has weathered some of the greatest challenges in our history with no layoffs, furloughs or cuts to City services. Thank you to our Departments and City Council for their hard work in ensuring the continued solid financial footing of the City.”
The general fund forecast of $645M for FY22 is supplemented by $62M in federal support from the American Rescue Plan. Key investments include:
• Funding for 250 police vacancies
• A continued commitment to pay raises for sworn members of the police and fire departments
• Increased funding for public safety camera network
• Resources to support pre-arrest diversion efforts citywide
• Additional funding for the Solicitor’s Office to tackle problem properties
• Support for the city’s parks and recreation network
• An increased budget for traffic safety that aligns with the Mayor’s Vision Zero Initiative
• Funding for interest payments for affordable housing investments
• Home repair assistance for legacy residents
• Continued support and investment in the arts community; and
• More resources to build out the Office of Inspector General.
Despite the financial impact of COVID-19, the Mayor’s balanced budget will replenish the City’s funds, strengthen City services, build on the Mayor’s equitable agenda—all accomplished with no tax increases.
