Aurora Theatre Brings the Heat with Barnburner Events this July

Aurora Theatre packs July with live entertainment and excitement! Add “Man in Black” to your Red, White and Blue holiday weekend as Aurora Welcomes Series hosts CASH/CARTER: A Concert Tribute! Get a double dose of terrific touring comedians as Aurora Comedy Nights hosts Mike Albanese for a weekend on the Aurora Mainstage. The July headliner for Brew Ha-Ha in the Biergarten at Ironshield Brewing is the inimitable Caleb Synan. With construction on the Lawrenceville Arts Center wrapping up in the fall, the first phase will be on display during outdoor performances at the Courtyard starting in July. Christmas Canteen in July provides an early dose of the holiday spirit and Disney’s Moana JR. highlights students attending Camp Aurora.

Aurora Theatre welcomes BUICEntennial Productions for the concert tribute Cash/Carter, celebrating the life and career of country superstar June Carter and the “Man in Black” himself, Johnny Cash!  This toe-tapping trip down memory lane incorporates historical accounts of their lives, and the joys of the music that brought them together as one. It’s a romance that transcends time as country music’s first couple to beat the odds personally and professionally. Clap along and enjoy their biggest hits: “Ring of Fire,” “Juke Box Blues,” “Jackson” and “It Ain’t Me, Babe!” This can’t-miss-event features Atlanta favorites Maggie Salley and Chase Peacock.

Christmas only comes once a year… and that is simply not enough. Aurora Theatre is hauling out the holly for a summertime sprinkle of holiday magic. Christmas Canteen in July will be the inaugural show in the Lawrenceville Arts Center Courtyard. Bring your beach chairs and kick back for an evening of fun al fresco. Just like the wintertime version, this show has humor, heart and spectacular music. Don’t miss the debut of The Courtyard providing a safe space to gather. Christmas Canteen in July has us more excited than a child trying to fall asleep on Christmas Eve.

Raised in Gwinnett, (a Collins Hill Grad) Mike Albanese is a food-obsessed New York-based writer and comedian. He can be seen as a recurring character on BET’s hit show, “The Game,” in 2016 feature film “American Dirtbags” and cooking up his favorite meals on his YouTube channel EAT MIKE. Mike finds his humor from his internal struggle with health, crippling paranoia and his longing for that perfect girl…who he will inevitably blow it with.

His unique background as a preacher’s kid from tiny Royston, GA to thriving LA comedian and writer gives him the ability to relate to any and every crowd. You may recognize Caleb from his numerous appearances on television: CONAN (twice!), Last Comic Standing and Comedy Central. He’s also entertained our troops in South Korea and Japan. Synan returns to Georgia to treat audiences to a night of comedy under the stars accompanied by great craft beer brewed in Lawrenceville!

A cast of 30 students from Aurora Theatre Academy Summer Camp will perform in the Disney’s Moana JR. in the brand-new Lawrenceville Arts Center Courtyard. The musical based on the hit motion picture is a thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story that follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana JR. features all the beloved songs from the film, written by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina. The show is sure to bring out the hero within each of us.

Audiences will be required to wear masks for all indoor events. Indoor performances at Aurora Theatre are available in reserved pod seating. Patrons can choose their seating pod online. Attendees will also be able to see which seats are blocked out to create social distance. At events located outdoors, attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and may need to bring their own chair. Tickets for all of these events are on sale here.
