Georgia Power and the Georgia Power Foundation – the nonprofit arm of the company – recently provided a $65,000 donation to the Latin American Association (LAA), the largest and oldest Hispanic-serving organization in the state.
Celebrating its 50th year in 2022, the LAA works daily to provide opportunities for all in the Hispanic and Latino community through civic engagement and advocacy, youth services, family stabilization and well-being, immigration services, and economic empowerment.
Recently, Georgia Power Area Manager for North Fulton and North DeKalb Misty Fernandez was named the Chair of the Latin American Association. She began her two-year term in July. In her role as chair, Fernandez is currently leading the largest fundraiser ever for the organization with the Latin Fever Ball this October.
In her role at Georgia Power, Fernandez works with local, regional and state leaders to advance and implement operational, economic, community and charitable strategies. Prior to her position as area manager, she worked as Assistant to Georgia Power’s Senior Vice President of Charitable Giving and President and CEO of the Georgia Power Foundation. Fernandez helped to lead charitable giving, volunteerism and community relations efforts across the state of Georgia. She has also held multiple positions in Georgia Power’s Customer Service organization.
