Beyond the Office: The Be Nice House is Atlanta's Newest Creative Studio & Community Space

Monday, September 20th, 2021

Formerly a mechanic shop, a welding studio, a church, and a yoga studio, the space at 511 Edgewood Ave. SE in the historic Old 4th Ward is Atlanta’s newest creative studio and gathering space — The Be Nice House

Smack dab in Atlanta’s heart, The Be Nice House is the elegant headquarters of LOCAL, a change communications agency that has been named one of Inc. 5000’s fastest growing private companies and  Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Best Places to Work. With an abundance of indoor workspace, an expansive courtyard, and an inspiring roof deck, Be Nice was designed to be the perfect place for hatching plans, hosting gatherings, and expanding minds.

Carrying forth the spirit of each of its former tenants, the space is named for the simple, powerful directive found written on the side of the building: “Be Nice.”

A two year passion project in the making, the space was designed by LOCAL’s Partner and Chief Client Officer, Brooke Wright, and Director of Operations, Magan van Tonder, to be modern but with an inviting beachy boho chic vibe. One of the non-negotiables for the space was that it should offer an effortless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Working with the team at Archie Bolden, this was perfectly captured for the floor plan. It features an open layout with a variety of seating environments to create separate spaces, plus a massive outdoor courtyard and rooftop deck with unbeatable city skyline views. Truly a rare gem in the middle of the city.

Keeping true to the LOCAL namesake, most of the furniture and decor elements were locally sourced from Bobo Intriguing Objects, Lemont Vintage Home, and Highland Row Antiques

“As avid estate sale shoppers and lovers of all things old, our vision was to build a foundation in the space with uniquely sourced new furniture accented by vintage found pieces,” said Wright. “Whether it is a 1960 Peugeot motorcycle in the front entry, wooden parts from an old factory hanging on the walls, antique floor coverings, or eclectic vintage chairs sourced from Palm Springs, there is history at every turn.”

Any day of the week you’ll hear the LOCAL team (Localitos) refer to the space as “The House,” a term that has been organically adopted but affirms that the buildout accomplished the vision. This is not an office. You will not find a single desk. It's a place where we gather, share ideas, and not only build our culture, but also celebrate Atlanta’s through hosting private and community events of all kinds.

The house is available for event, production, or meeting rental and offers:

  • 3,500 square feet of indoor workspace

  • 200 square foot rooftop deck

  • 2,500 square foot outdoor courtyard

  • 4 picnic tables

  • 3 smart TVs

  • 2 conference rooms
