As part of Piedmont Healthcare’s expansion of the Neurosciences Service Line, Piedmont Atlanta Hospital opened its new Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery Operating Suite today. The suite includes two state-of-the-art neurosurgical operating rooms with specialized equipment and enhanced video technology, offering patients access to the latest technology and expert care, right when and where they need it most.

“This operating suite incorporates the latest and most advanced technologies for the treatment of strokes of any kind,” said Michael Stiefel, M.D., Medical Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Piedmont Atlanta and Piedmont’s Stroke Program. “It was designed to allow us to treat patients with newer endovascular techniques as well as traditional surgical techniques. We are proud to open this surgical suite and of the world-class care our team provides to patients across the Southeast.”

In April, Piedmont announced that it was building a world-class Neurosciences Service Line at Piedmont Atlanta, with particular focus on brain tumor, spine and cerebrovascular services.

The service line launched with the opening of a 10-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and 28 dedicated floor beds at Piedmont Atlanta, where people with a variety of neurological issues – including strokes, intrarcranial and subarachnoid hemorrhages, neuromuscular disease, craniotomies and Status Epilepticus – are treated. Early next year, the unit will move into the Marcus Tower and expand to 22 critical care beds and 48 floor beds.
