HelloFresh, the world’s leading meal kit company, Pratt Industries, America’s 5th largest corrugated packaging company, and food rescue organization Second Helpings Atlanta (SHA) have teamed up to provide 1,000 free turkeys and sides to food insecure families here on Tuesday, November 23. As part of HelloFresh’s meal kit distribution program, Meals with Meaning, which was launched earlier this summer to provide food insecure residents with fresh, nutritious food, the local Atlanta community will not have to stress about having to choose between paying a bill or putting Thanksgiving dinner on the table.
According to Feeding America, 45 million people, including 25 million children, may have experienced food insecurity in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year alone, 42 million people, including 13 million children, may experience food insecurity in 2020, and at least 60 million people visited a food bank or food pantry. The Meals With Meaning program intends to make a meaningful difference throughout the year.
With the support of the Atlanta City Council, City Councilman Michael Julian Bond and The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Meals With Meaning is a weekly distribution effort to provide 8,000 meals per week to those facing food insecurity in Atlanta. HelloFresh donates the ingredients and Second Helpings Atlanta volunteers pack the meal kits in boxes provided by Pratt Industries. Second Helpings Atlanta distributes the meals every Wednesday at various locations throughout the city with pick-up locations varying from week to week.
“We are so thankful for our incredible partners in this meaningful, far-reaching initiative to feed food insecure families during Thanksgiving and beyond,” said Second Helpings Atlanta executive director Andrea Jaron. “Without their support and the commitment from our volunteers and hard-working staff, Meals With Meaning wouldn’t be possible.”
"We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal around the table with loved ones,” said Uwe Voss, CEO of HelloFresh U.S. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Pratt Industries and Second Helpings Atlanta to give families the ability to celebrate together.”
“As Americans gather to give thanks for all the blessings in their lives it’s appropriate we take time to remember those among us who are less fortunate,” said Pratt Industries executive chairman Anthony Pratt. “That’s why we’re proud to join HelloFresh and Second Helpings and their Meals with Meanings program which will help thousands of those in need.”
“These continue to be challenging times and it’s important to make sure our citizens have access to healthy meals, especially during the upcoming holiday season,” said Council Member Michael Julian Bond. “It’s an honor to work with HelloFresh and our community partners to deliver nutritious meals to those in need to keep our community strong and healthy.”
