Center for the Visually Impaired to Honor John T. Rhett III at Annual Fundraiser
Friday, December 10th, 2021
The Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI) will honor John T. Rhett III at its annual fundraiser Night Visions to be held at the Atlanta History Center. Rhett will be recognized for his unwavering support and generosity to CVI for the past 30 years. Through his stewardship, CVI’s endowment continues to provide stability and strength to the organization.
When asked what inspired him to become involved with CVI, Rhett said, "Seeing the impact that CVI had on the family of a co-worker who had a son who was born blind, touched me in a way that I had no choice but to get involved".
Rhett has served the Center since 1990 first as a Trustee on the CVI Board and the CVI Foundation Board. He led the Board as Chair from 2010 to 2012, served a term as Treasurer and currently serves on the CVI Foundation’s Endowment Committee.
With more than 45 years of investment banking and brokerage experience, Rhett recently retired as the Chairman and CEO of SunTrust Investment Services. His career began in New York at Merrill Lynch as an institutional trader on the municipal bond desk, and in 1980, he joined the investment banking firm, Robinson-Humphrey, where he was Head of Municipal Trading and Marketing for six years. In September 2013, he joined both Red Rock Strategic Partners and Red Rock Advisory Group as Chairman and Senior Managing Director, advising financial institutions and private business owners. He is also a guest lecturer for undergraduate and graduate studies with the Georgia Tech College of Management.
Rhett’s other civic leadership roles have included serving as vice chairman of the Parish Council of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church as well as a board member of the Brookhaven Georgia Development Authority. Additionally, he is a trustee of Marist School in Atlanta as well as a board member of Catholic Charities of North Georgia committee.
CVI’s Night Visions returns Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Atlanta History Center. The History Center is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. The event will celebrate CVI’s 60 years of serving people in metro Atlanta who are blind or visually impaired.
Guests will enjoy delicious food, an open bar, and a live and silent auction all while supporting CVI’s life-changing programs and services for people who are blind or visually impaired.
CVI is Georgia’s most comprehensive nonprofit facility providing vision rehabilitation training and services to people of all ages and with all degrees of vision loss. Funds raised at Night Visions are crucial to ensuring that the organization can continue to empower its clients to live fulfilling and robust lives despite their vision loss.
