Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Roundup
Friday, December 10th, 2021
It was a productive week for the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. Here’s a glance at what they accomplished this past Tuesday.
Seniors socialize in Snellville
The County teamed up with the city of Snellville to renew a contract aimed at helping senior citizens with their quality of life.
The Snellville Senior Center will serve as a satellite location where people can socialize with activities and eat a healthy and tasty meal. Transportation will be provided for current participants and new seniors who were identified during the pandemic.
Gwinnett Police gets GEMA funds
It’s about prioritizing safety and security for the Gwinnett County Police Department. Commissioners gave the greenlight for the department to receive a $250,000 Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security grant.
The funds will be used to train the police department’s bomb squad to safely respond to unknown substances, calls and potentially hazardous events.
The grant does not require matching funds from the County.
Gwinnett County Airport to get new master plan
The Gwinnett County Airport will get a new master plan that is 15 years in the making.
The contract was awarded to Michael Baker International, Inc., with a base amount of $350,000.
The master plan update will include an account of what facilities are currently available at the airport, a forecast of future aviation activities and a new airport layout plan to bring the facilities in line with the plan.
Last updated more than a decade ago, the new master plan will reflect the current state of the aviation industry.
