Woman-Owned Business in Loganville Also Helping Rare Breed of Pig

Wednesday, January 19th, 2022

An all-female butcher shop in Loganville is reaping the rewards from the demand for local food and the farm-to-table movement brought up by the pandemic. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Laura Jensen, owner of Jensen Reserve, offers meat products made nowhere else in the world.

Now, thanks to a partnership with Market Wagon (MarketWagon.com), an online farmers market, Jensen can bring her artisan products to the front door of customers living in 19 counties in Georgia, including all of Metro Atlanta and Athens. She’s seen a large increase in consistent revenue since joining Market Wagon by no longer having to rely on customers coming to Loganville or sunny weather and a good crowd at a physical farmers market.

Jensen Reserve is one of the only American breeders of the Meishan pig, perhaps the oldest breed of domesticated pig in the world. Laura happened upon the breed by chance and was instantly hooked because hogs are incredibly docile and ideal for a small homestead.

Now, Jensen Reserve (whose 9 employees are all women) is the only maker in the world of prosciutto which is made from Meishan pig. She also offers bacon, sausages, tenderloins and even charcuterie kits featuring the Meishan breed.

It’s all for sale on Market Wagon where customers can connect with dozens of LOCAL farmers, chefs and artisans. People can shop 680+ locally-grown products on their computer or smartphone throughout the week and place an order from multiple local vendors with one single checkout. It will then be delivered to their homes each Tuesday afternoon.
