Atlanta Jewish Foundation to Launch New Legacy Society

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022

The Atlanta Jewish Foundation will launch a new Legacy Society to recognize donors who have made a legacy gift to the Foundation or the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. The Legacy Society will launch at this year’s Grow a Legacy event on April 12, 2022.

“The Atlanta Jewish Foundation is proud to recognize individuals and families who have created a lasting Jewish legacy. These generous endowment gifts help to secure our Jewish future and help ensure that Jewish life remains vibrant in Atlanta, in Israel and around the world,” said Jori Mendel, Chief Foundation Officer of Atlanta Jewish Foundation.

This year’s Grow a Legacy event also honors those that have signed the Jewish Future Pledge, a worldwide movement inspiring Jews of all backgrounds to commit that from the charity they leave at their passing, at least half is earmarked to support the Jewish people and/or the State of Israel. Atlanta has already had 300 people sign this pledge.

“The Pledge is not a fundraiser for a specific organization. It is a moral commitment to the Jewish people,” said Mark Silberman, Jewish Future Pledge Chair and Grow a Legacy Event Chair. “The Jewish Future Pledge creates an opportunity to start conversations with your children, grandchildren, and community about the Jewish values that have guided your life and the importance of sustaining the Jewish people.”

All new Legacy Society members will receive recognition for their outstanding commitment to the Jewish people. Special events and experiences presented by both The Foundation and Federation enable like-minded philanthropists to meet one another and share ideas.

LIFE & LEGACY is a capacity building partnership program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation that provides training, support and monetary incentives to move organizations to secure meaningful after-lifetime legacy gifts. This program creates a strong partnership between the Atlanta Jewish Foundation and our local Jewish community agencies, synagogues and day schools. It reaffirms the importance of legacy giving at a time when we have been so reminded that you never know what the future will hold. Legacy commitments ensure that organizations that are providing impactful programs and services during both calm and turbulent times have the necessary resources to adapt.

In the first two years of this four-year program, more than 270 local donors have made legacy commitments that will support our Atlanta Jewish community with more than $17.7 million in future gifts. Worldwide, the LIFE & LEGACY program has motivated more than 17,000 donors in 63 communities across North America to commit more than a billion dollars in current and after-lifetime assets to the Jewish organizations which shaped their lives.
