Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra to Headline Look Up Atlanta Main Stage
Friday, June 10th, 2022
The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) will headline a lineup of special patriotic performances prior to the Southeast’s largest fireworks show at “Look Up Atlanta,” Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) announced.
Look Up Atlanta, a “special celebration of Atlanta for Atlantans,” revives Fourth of July fireworks at Centennial Olympic Park and honors Atlanta’s history as host of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra leads a lineup of all Atlanta-based performers.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, one of several tremendous local entertainment acts, to headline the Look Up Atlanta main stage,” said Frank Poe, GWCCA’s Executive Director. “The longstanding partnership between Centennial Olympic Park and the Woodruff Arts Center dates back to the founding of the Park. Its continued support has helped cultivate our downtown landmark and lasting legacy to the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games immensely since its inception.”
“After a year of working alongside the remarkable Jerry Hou, current Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Associate Conductor & Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra Music Director, I am thrilled to step in and lead the extremely talented young musicians of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra in this special performance,” said William Langley, Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra guest conductor. “We look forward to presenting a unique program of orchestral showpieces and patriotic tunes, which will feature works by numerous American composers, including John Williams, Edwin Eugene Bagley, and John Philip Sousa.”
Established in 1974, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra provides Atlanta’s most talented and dedicated students an outlet to perform masterworks. Each year, more than three hundred rising 8th to 12th-grade instrumentalists audition for seats in the ASYO. The ASYO presents a three-concert series each year and members have exclusive invitations to participate in readings and master classes with the top artists in the instrumental music industry.
More headline entertainment acts will be announced later, including an Atlanta-based national recording artist.
Tickets to Look Up Atlanta are on sale now at GWCCA.org/LookUpATL.
