Dark Horse CPAs, a top accounting and tax firm serving small businesses and individuals across the nation, announces the promotion of Scot Goldring to Principal. Scot’s outstanding client service to small businesses in the areas of tax and accounting has earned him a seat at the table, becoming an equity Principal of the firm.

Scot entered the Dark Horse Principal Accelerator Program in November 2021 and quickly built a 6-figure book of business, due to a combination of technical knowledge, substantial experience in public accounting and ability to quickly build rapport and trust with clients. Due to the quality of his work, the depth of his relationships with clients and contributions to the firm and his colleagues, the decision was made to promote him to Principal effective May 2022.

Speaking to the challenges posed by the Accelerator Program, Scot stated, “the most challenging part of the program was learning how to sell myself and the firm to many prospective clients while delivering on those promises and effectively managing my time. Collaborating with other Dark Horse Accelerators was key to my growth and success in the program.” When asked which element of the Accelerator Program differed the greatest from his expectations, he explained, “I thought it would be harder to get prospects to believe in us. The stellar reputation that previous Accelerators and Principals have built for the firm over the years made this almost a non-issue. Add to that the less-than-stellar experiences most clients endure with other firms before finding us made it that much easier.”

The advice Scot would give to those considering their options in building a practice is, “you don’t need to follow the old method of buying a practice and running yourself ragged trying to rebuild it the way you want or attempting to build a client base from scratch. If you’re great at the client service piece of the business, the Accelerator Program is a much more attractive, and less expensive, alternative.” Moving forward, Scot is excited to, “continue building and refining my practice to optimize for both profitability and work/life balance for myself and those I will hire to support my practice. Also, I am looking forward to being able to mentor future Accelerators as the firm continues to grow.”

“Scot has a lighthearted, warm and friendly demeanor combined with a great sense of humor that people gravitate towards,” says Chase Birky, CEO & co-founder of Dark Horse CPAs. “And, he knows his stuff. He’s got a wealth of information and has gone beyond the call of duty to help out his peers. It was no surprise to us that he was growing his book of business as quickly as he was. When you see how someone shows up day-in and day-out, you know how they’re treating clients. Needless to say, we knew his clients were in good hands.”
