The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced the award of the I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane Extension project. The project represents one of three I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects which were pulled forward to relieve congestion and accommodate the upcoming I-285 Express Lanes project.
Georgia DOT selected Archer Western Construction, LLC/Heath & Lineback Engineers, Inc. using a Two-Phase Low Bid procurement method for the Design-Build (DB) project.
“The Department is excited to begin construction on the last of the programmed I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects. The procurement schedule was accelerated by using the DB method, which will ultimately save time in design and construction,” Georgia DOT Project Manager Anthony Tate said. “This infrastructure project is another that will provide long term I-285 operational improvements in coordination with larger project construction to keep traffic moving during express lanes construction and beyond.”
The I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane Extension will add an auxiliary lane along I-285 between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive as well as replace the I-285/Mount Vernon Highway bridge. Additionally, the project will provide relief between the I-285/SR 400 Interchange and future I-285 Express Lanes construction.
