Established in 2006 by master woodcrafter, Andy Smallwood, Douglas County-based Smallwood Custom & Commercial Cabinets has a new proprietor at the helm and a new name on its workshop marquee. While Smallwood will stay on in the role of president, he is honored to welcome Army veteran and talented woodworker, Ted Kalb to the team as owner and CEO. In addition to a passion for woodworking and a genuine affinity for customer service, Kalb brings with him a new brand image for the company – now named Southern Oak Woodwork. Besides the new name, the rebrand includes a new logo, new website and exciting new direction for the company.

“We chose Southern Oak Woodwork for the company name, not only because oak is an excellent wood for cabinet making,” said Kalb. “Strong and lasting, a southern oak has a deep taproot – which speaks to the legacy Andy has built, and lateral roots that spread out in all directions – which speaks to our vision of the future. Luxury cabinet making for residential and commercial clients will always be at the heart of what Southern Oak is all about, but we are exploring smart growth that will highlight the talents of our experienced team of craftsman in a broader way for the benefit of the clients we serve. What will never change is our use of the finest materials, the quality of our work and our dedication to the delivery of incomparable service – from project start to finish.”

Kalb also insists that Southern Oak Woodwork will continue to serve as the ideal partner to homeowners, builders, residential and commercial developers, property managers and more. For its residential clients and builders, whether new construction or through a renovation, Southern Oak now offers everything from luxury kitchen and bathroom cabinets to custom closets, home offices with built-in bookcases, custom bars, home theaters and more. On behalf of its commercial clients, the company has served office developers, luxury hotels, multi-family developers, retail, restaurants, medical offices, athletics facilities, car dealerships and beyond with a unique take on work and service spaces. Just a handful of its commercial clients and projects to date have included AutoNation®, Jim ‘N Nicks Bar-B-Q, PF Chang’s®, Tru by Hilton®, Delta Air Lines, Wells Fargo Bank, 24 Hour Fitness, Nalley Lexus, Kennesaw State University, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, Paschal’s and Truist Park – just to name a few.
