Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace is proud to announce the contribution of the SCAD Collection for Meals on Wheels Atlanta (MOWA), a permanent exhibition of SCAD artworks to adorn MOWA’s new headquarters in West Midtown, and the adjacent 1705 West venue space.

The SCAD Collection for MOWA features more than 50 artworks contributed by SCAD, personally selected by President Wallace and SCAD’s Chief Operating Officer Glenn Wallace, for the dynamic exhibition. The exhibition will illuminate and enliven the new space, serving as inspiration to volunteers, guests, and the community. The bountiful gift fortifies the university’s position as a leader in the Atlanta arts community and exemplifies the mission of SCAD SERVE, SCAD’s community service design studio focused on uplifting local communities with design-driven solutions in the critical need areas of food, shelter, clothing and environment. SCAD maintains a long-standing relationship with MOWA, in support of the organization’s commitment to aid seniors in metro Atlanta struggling with food insecurity.

A total of 14 notable SCAD alumni artists are featured in the dynamic exhibition. All of the artworks showcase the creative artists represented by SCAD Art Sales, the university’s in-house art consultancy and curatorial studio.

The esteemed visual alumni artists, from an array of SCAD’s top-ranked degree programs including painting, illustration, fibers, photography, sculpture, and fashion design, were hand-selected to create original works of paintings, sculptures, large-scale installations and murals for this permanent exhibition of SCAD work on view to elevate and enrich the MOWA and 1705 West spaces. Their works evoke the vibrancy of Atlanta and the SCAD spirit of altruism and community.

“The incredible generosity of President Wallace throughout the years is punctuated in this art exhibition that celebrates our new venue, 1705 West, and captures the essence of MOWA’s mission,” said MOWA CEO Charlene Crusoe-Ingram. “The artworks and their SCAD creators are a reflection of our colorful city, the seniors we serve, and our staff who deliver food, compassion and care that our aging neighbors urgently need.”

President Wallace and SCAD have a long-standing relationship with MOWA. The university has been a benefactor for the organization for over two decades. Notably, President Wallace was a recent featured keynote speaker at MOWA’s Power Luncheon, and SCAD aligned with MOWA early in the Covid-19 pandemic for a public art campaign with artist Carrie Mae Weems. SCAD students, faculty, and staff actively volunteer with Meals on Wheels for food drives, meal kit preparation, and deliveries organized through SCAD SERVE.

Serving more than 1,800 meals a day throughout Atlanta, the mission of MOWA is to support senior independence through meals, shelter, education, and community.
