Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBSMA) partnered with Micron on July 13-14, 2022 for the first Atlanta-based Chip Camp, held at the BBBSMA headquarters. This two-day STEM camp provided 25 sixth through ninth grade students in the BBBSMA program with opportunities to build circuits, launch rockets, and program robots, as well as explore topics in engineering, physics, chemistry and computer science.
“We’re excited to work with BBBS and bring Chip Camp to youth in the program. The historic West End of Atlanta is in close proximity to the new Micron office and we want to have an impact on the communities we’re in,” said Robert Simmons III, Director of Social Impact and STEM Programs for Micron Foundation.
"Our partnership with Micron is crucial for providing youth with career exploration that will lead them to their biggest possible future,” said Kwame Johnson, BBBSMA President & CEO. “We’re also thankful that STE(A)M Truck, our long-time partner, joined forces with Micron to develop the curriculum and deploy volunteers for the camp.”
Chip Camp and activities like it are part of expanded resources offered by BBBSMA under the Big Futures program. Other resources include career panels, a weekly newsletter with extracurricular activities, access to college scholarships, SAT/ACT and financial aid workshops, and an annual Back to School Fair.
