Medical Association of Atlanta Names Dr. Fonda Mitchell as President

Dr. Fonda Mitchell, a practicing Obstetrician/Gynecologist with The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG), was installed as President of the Medical Association of Atlanta (MAA) for 2022 – 2023 at the MAA Annual Meeting on July 22, 2022.
Established in 1854, the MAA has approximately 2,000 members and is the largest county medical society in Georgia. Dr. Mitchell will succeed Dr. Ali R. Rahimi, a Cardiologist with The Southeast Permanente Medical Group.
Dr. Mitchell is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and has practiced with The Southeast Permanente Medical Group since 2001. Dr. Mitchell currently serves as the Physician Program Director of Government and Medical Association Relations for The Southeast Permanente Medical Group. In this role, she is responsible for cultivating and growing strong relationships with key stakeholders in City, County and State Government. She previously served as Chief of Women’s Services for TSPMG from 2008- 2014. Dr. Mitchell is a board member of both the MAA and the Medical Association of Georgia and also serves as an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association. Outside of positions within organized medicine, Dr. Mitchell sits on the Board of Directors for TSPMG and Susan G. Komen’s Sisters of Promise.
Dr. Mitchell is a Georgia native, born and raised in Augusta. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Biology. She completed Medical School at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta and completed her residency in Michigan. She has an MBA from Kennesaw State University.
Dr. Mitchell will be joined on next year’s Executive Committee by Dr. John Johnson (West Atlanta Internal Medicine), named President-Elect, Dr. Cody McClatchey (Piedmont Internal Medicine, P.C.), named Treasurer, and Dr. Carmen Kavali (Kavali Plastic Surgery and Skin Renewal Center), named Secretary. Dr. Rahimi will continue to serve on the Executive Committee as Chairman of the Board.
