Mayor Dickens Raises Funds for Youth Scholarship Program at Annual Golf Cup
Staff Report
Thursday, September 8th, 2022
Mayor Andre Dickens hosted the 2022 Mayor’s Golf Cup at Browns Mill Golf Course. The annual event supports the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program (MYSP). MYSP assists Atlanta youth to pursue post-secondary education at a college or university of their choice. The scholarship is designed to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with post-secondary education, which in turn helps students build a strong foundation for future career success and wealth building.
“A quality college education is one of the biggest expenses most families will incur, and the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program is our way of standing in the gap for these bright young minds who need some financial support getting through college,” said Mayor Dickens. “Financial barriers should not stand between students continuing their education, and I am grateful for the sponsors and participants who devoted their time and resources to such an important cause.”
This year’s Golf Cup featured 23 sponsors - with Delta Airlines being the Master Sponsor - and raised more than $94,000.
For the 2022 – 2023 academic year, the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program has provided 88 students from Atlanta with nearly $500,000 in scholarship funds. Most scholarships are granted to Atlanta Public School graduates. A key difference about MYSP from other scholarship programs is that MYSP does not establish a minimum GPA for a student’s eligibility, and scholarship awards can be used for any college or university, in or outside of Atlanta.
The Golf Cup brought together partners and leaders from across the metropolitan area to make significant investments in the lives of promising Atlanta high school students. The winner of the 2022 Mayor’s Golf Cup was the Friends of Mayor Andre Dickens team.
