Tuesday, November 15th, 2022
Are you a snowbird looking to head south for the winter? Or are you maybe a true southerner that loves the winter weather in Georgia? The winter season is the perfect time to escape to the south toward warmer weather. Eager to get away? North Georgia is the ideal spot for a warm weather escape.
Welcome to Historic Banning Mills—an adventure resort like no other. Banning holds the Guinness world record for longest zip line canopy tour and tallest free-standing rock wall, but the adventure doesn’t stop there. Not only does Banning have two certified world records but is seeking a third record for the longest suspension bridge in the United States. At Historic Banning Mills Retreat and Conservation Center, visitors can explore 300 acres of pristine woodlands in the Snake Creek Gorge. Conveniently located 45 minutes west of Atlanta in Whitesburg, Georgia, experience beauty and history at this adventure and conservation resort. Additional adventure options range from ziplining, aerial adventures, kayaking, Eco-Spider ATV tours, hiking trails, horseback riding and more!
If you prefer the view from above, experience the one-of-a-kind Bridges of Banning. At Banning Mills, trek the miles and miles of trails in the treetops with an entire eco tour experience in the sky. The many unique bridges around Banning exceed 700 feet in length and make for a great way to experience stunning views. With over 15 miles of hiking trails at the conservancy center, the trails have numerous bridges that cross over the gorge:
Hike Bike bridge - 740 feet long and 170 feet high
Adventure Trail bridge - 540 feet long and 120 feet high
Sky Trek bridge - 640 feet long and 190 feet over the gorge *Sky Trek is part of the largest zipline canopy tour course in the world and can only be accessed by the zipline tours and is not for regular hiking*
Besides the amazing suspension bridges, there are numerous other “lower to the ground” bridges that cross over lakes, the Snake Creek and ravines. Impressive hiking for all seasons of the year.
With a unique eco system and significant Georgia and Creek Indian history, Banning Mills’ private trail system allows a special experience to become one with nature. Hike along Snake Creek and old town roads, explore the ruins of the paper mill, walk on a water raceway and even experience the old Indian paths along the gorge. There are many scenic hiking and nature trails for guests to enjoy at Historic Banning Mills. Hop on horseback and trot the trails to take in the warmer weather Georgia has to offer. Enjoy horseback riding on the beautiful historic trails with peaceful surroundings.
To get to the Hike Bike bridge, take a tour on the Swin Car—the new eco, electric based ATV guided trail tour. Swin Car is open and ready for adventure seekers. The tour offers a different way to tour the property. Breathtaking!
Give the gift of adventure this holiday season and see the bridges of Banning. You will FA-LA-LOVE it
Historic Banning Mills is not a state park. Admission is charged for trail use and activities. RSVP is highly recommended for any and all activities. All monies are placed back into the conservancy to support the preservation of the eco system of the Snake Creek Gorge and history.
