Georgia’s Own Credit Union, the second largest credit union in the state, today announced its planned merger with Health Center Credit Union (HCCU), a financial cooperative based in Augusta, Georgia. Established in 1976, HCCU was initially chartered to serve individuals associated with Augusta University, AU Health, the Columbia, Richmond and Lincoln County school systems and local medical and dental offices. HCCU members will have the opportunity to approve the merger in the coming weeks.

“We are thrilled to welcome the employees and members of Health Center, while continuing to expand our reach in key markets across the state,” said David Preter, president and CEO of Georgia’s Own Credit Union. “We are committed to making this a smooth transition for all and are confident we can deliver added value through our exceptional products and services.”

Health Center Credit Union serves over 6,400 members and counts 16 employees across its two branches in Augusta and Evans, Georgia.

“Georgia’s Own has a longstanding reputation of doing right by its members and doing good in the community, so we are incredibly aligned when it comes to our core values,” said Stacy Tallent, CEO of Health Center Credit Union. “We look forward to integrating into their team and continuing to take care of the members who have entrusted us with their assets.”

The merger comes as part of Georgia’s Own’s overall strategy to grow its footprint in key markets across the state. The merger, once complete, will increase Georgia’s Own’s total assets to over $4.8 billion.
