Horizons Atlanta Announces New Board Members and Staff, Introduces New Advisory Board

Horizons Atlanta (HA), a nonprofit that supports metro-Atlanta K-12 students from underserved communities through its six-week summer and year-round learning programs, today announced it has added new members to its board of directors and formed a separate advisory board comprised of several former members of its board of directors and long-time supporters.
“2023 has been an exciting year for us so far,” said Horizon Atlanta’s Executive Director Alex Wan. “We are celebrating our 10th Anniversary as a regional program, partnering with The Temple to begin our 11th program, and welcoming new board members and staff who contribute meaningful leadership and work that makes all of our programs successful.”
Continued Wan, “We’re very fortunate to launch our new Horizons Atlanta Advisory Board with a faithful group of supporters who have been instrumental in helping us grow our regional program and positively impact more Atlanta students.”
Please see below for the new additions and changes to Horizons Atlanta’s 2023 Board of Directors:
Rodes Bazzel is the Merchandising Vice President - Tools at The Home Depot. Since joining The Home Depot in 2009, Rodes has held multiple positions across the company in Finance, Product Development, and Merchandising. She is serving on Horizons Atlanta’s Development committee. Bazzel earned a Master in Business Administration in finance from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
Tyler Cook, joining Horizons Atlanta’s Development committee, is the Vice President of Finance and Business Transformation for Georgia Power and recently served as a board member for the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the American Red Cross. Tyler holds a Master in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Georgia State University and is also a graduate of the University of Georgia, with a Bachelor in Business Administration in management information systems.
Christina Graham, currently serving as Horizons Atlanta’s Secretary of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Governance Committee, was elected in April as the Board Chair Elect for 2024. Graham is a Partner with Morris, Manning & Martin, known for her expertise in commercial real estate matters. She holds a bachelor’s of science from Elon University and earned her Juris Doctorate from Emory University.
Angira Sceusi is the Vice President-Chief of Staff at redefinED Atlanta. Previously, she worked as a high school math and computer science teacher in the Houston Independent School District and served as Director of Finance and Director of Talent Initiatives at YES Prep Public Schools in Houston. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in information systems management from Carnegie Mellon University. She also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems. Angira is a member of Horizons Atlanta’s Development committee.
Keith White serves on Horizons Atlanta’s Governance committee. He is the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School. Keith holds a Bachelor of Arts in child development from Morehouse College and a Master of Science degree in college student personnel from the University of Rhode Island.
Horizons Atlanta’s Advisory Board Members:
John Brock served as Horizons Atlanta’s Founding Board Chair in 2013 after the nonprofit became a regional program. John is the retired CEO of Coca-Cola European Partners PLC. Brock held many successful leadership roles with Cadbury Schweppes and is the former director of Dow Jones & Company, Campbell Soup Company and Reed Elsevier, plc in London. Brock earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech University.
Mary Brock, a former Board member with Horizons National, was influential in establishing Horizons Atlanta as a regional program. She is a philanthropist and active community leader who also previously served on the Horizons Atlanta Board of Directors Development Committee. Mary earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in science education at Miami University of Ohio.
Irene Oakley Johnson formerly served on the Horizons Atlanta Board of Directors Development Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. She is the first lady of Clark Atlanta University and the former procurement professional in the Mission Operations Support Office at NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Prior to joining NASA, Irene had a successful career in human resources development and talent management and acquisition. She served as the Corporate Recruiting Leader in the Futurestep division of Korn Ferry International and Regional Corporate Recruiter for Mercer HR Global, one of the world’s largest employee benefits consulting firm.
Stacy Goodman Scott is an Atlanta native and volunteer Community Advisor. Stacy has enjoyed a notable corporate sales career for large companies such as Colgate-Palmolive and Viacom and previously served on the Horizons Atlanta Board of Directors as a key member of the Resource Development Committee. Stacy and her husband Jim, CEO of In Zone Brands, have been highly involved as parents and Athletic Association members at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School.
Dave Stockert previously served as the Treasurer/CFO, Finance Committee Chair, and Treasurer/Committee Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Horizons Atlanta Board of Directors. Dave is a partner in Sweetwater Holdings and a director of Mid-America Apartment Communities. He previously worked for eight years as an investment banker and a CPA before serving as CEO and President of Post Properties for nearly 15 years. Dave received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University.
Louise Wells is the Retired Managing Partner of Morris, Manning & Martin and the founding partner of the firm’s Residential Real Estate Practice. She previously served on the Horizons Atlanta Board of Directors as the Secretary of the Development Committee.
Horizons Atlanta’s Staff Additions:
Luz Baqueiro joined the Horizons Atlanta regional office in March 2023 as the Enrollment and Records Manager. Luz has been part of the Horizons Atlanta community since 2019, providing enrollment support to Horizons Atlanta at Atlanta International School. She is a certified interpreter in Education and Special Education, and she has previously worked for Atlanta Public Schools as a District Bilingual Community Liaison.
Chloe Bowman joined the Horizons Atlanta regional office in March 2023 as Project Manager. Bowman earned her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Liberal Arts from Georgia College & State University. She is also proudly involved with Kate’s Club - a local nonprofit that provides free recreational and therapeutic support to grieving children and young adults.
Khalilah Moss joined Horizons Atlanta as the Associate Director of Regional Programs in April 2023. Prior to joining the regional office, she served at Horizons Atlanta with Purpose Built Schools as its Program Coordinator and spent 15 years in K – 12 classroom instruction and administration leadership roles. Moss earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University and her Master of Science in Special Education and Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.
