The first house of a hidden town; an energetic place where the community gathers to celebrate life. This is Madre Selva, the latest restaurant joining the globally inspired dining mix at Uptown Atlanta, the 47-acre mixed-use destination being redeveloped by Rubenstein Partners, L.P. (together with its affiliates, “Rubenstein”). Opening Spring 2024, Madre Selva’s chef-driven menu will bring authentic Latin American flavors to the Uptown community.
The Concept
Born from Francisco Puerta and Juan Segura, Madre Selva will open its doors at the center of Uptown’s Main Street where Rubenstein is creating an eclectic and chef-driven restaurant row. In addition to debuting Atlanta's premier ceviche bar, Madre Selva’s elevated menu will include some of the most vibrant and delicious Latin American dishes, such as Peruvian scallops, seafood papillotes, classic Peruvian ceviche, and Nikkei stir fry. Madre Selva will open for lunch, dinner, and brunch, serving both Uptown’s office community and the thousands of residents that live nearby.
Featuring two patios that seat up to 60 guests, the vibrant space will be infused with Cartagena vibes, which includes pops of yellow, unique textures and ornate moldings. Never-before-seen renderings can be viewed here.
“We believe in celebrating our rich cultural world and immersing ourselves in the vibrancy it has to offer, and this is the type of experience we will create at Madre Selva,” said owners Juan and Francisco. “We will bring authentic Latin coastal flavors to Atlanta that honor our heritage and share its culinary delights with the city. We are thrilled to bring this concept to life at Uptown and look forward to welcoming the community to experience Madre Selva’s captivating food, drink, and ambiance."
The Talent
A duo of chefs, entrepreneurs, and brothers known as the “Twins,” will lead the culinary experience at Madre Selva. Executive Chef David Londoño Briñez is an experienced Colombian chef known for his unique interpretations of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine. Having worked over nine years in the industry, he masterfully blends Latin, Japanese, and other coastal cuisines, creating an orchestra of new flavors.
In the ceviche bar with over ten years of restaurant experience is Master Sushi Chef Daniel Londoño Brinez. He began his culinary journey in Atlanta working in some of the most well-known restaurants including OKU, MF Sushi, and Brush Sushi. He had the opportunity to move closer to his culinary roots in Peru, where he truly learned the art of Peruvian and Nikkei cuisine from authentic local and top restaurants such as Ozaka.
Alex Holender, a renowned bartender and consultant from Peru with vast experience across the restaurant industry, will bring the pisco knowledge (a type of brandy popular in Peru and made from distilled from wine or fermented fruit juice). At Madre Selva, he will create the first dedicated pisco bar in the city, adding a unique touch to the restaurant’s cocktail experience.
Rubenstein previously announced five globally inspired dining concepts for Uptown, including El Gordo, an authentic taqueria; Bene Korean, an upscale Korean barbeque experience; J’ouvert Caribbean Kitchen, Caribbean street food and brunch restaurant; and White Windmill, a popular Korean bakery and coffee shop. These restaurants will join community favorite 26 Thai Kitchen and Bar and open along Main Street in early 2024.
In May, Rubenstein opened Uptown Test Kitchen, a novel culinary experience for Atlanta foodies in a restaurant space fronting Piedmont Road. Uptown Test Kitchen is currently activated by Chow À La Carte, which is designed to bring the community and local chefs from around the world together. Uptown Test Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner Thursdays through Sundays, each time featuring a dynamic mix of chefs with fresh menus. To learn more about Chow À La Carte’s offerings, visit the Uptown Test Kitchen page on Uptown's website.
“Madre Selva perfectly complements Uptown’s collection of flavors from around the world,” said George Banks, founder of Revel, Rubenstein’s retail partner at Uptown. “We have engaged some of the best restaurateurs and chefs Atlanta has to offer, and we look forward to sharing Uptown’s mix of authentic and global dining experiences with the community.”
Additional retailers announced for Uptown include Atlanta-based concepts The Commodore, a retro barber shop, and Roundhouse Kickboxing, a dynamic fitness studio. Both concepts play an important role in establishing Uptown as a highly amenitized and community-driven destination for Atlanta. The Commodore will open this year, with Roundhouse Kickboxing opening in January 2024.
Anchored by the Lindbergh MARTA Station, Uptown encompasses nearly 1 million square feet of office space,120,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and a variety of community gathering spaces. The transit-oriented community features connectivity to the city’s major pedestrian trails, such as the Atlanta BeltLine, PATH400 and the South Fork Trail. As part of the redevelopment plan, Rubenstein modernized the 35,000-square-foot office atrium; elevated building facades; created a true, pedestrian-friendly Main Street; and transformed The Lawn into a highly programmed community gathering space.
