Buckhead Village is excited to announce that it is the latest Jamestown property to adopt “The Collision Project” – Jamestown's art-centric initiative aimed at connecting artists to on-site, public art opportunities across Jamestown’s portfolio worldwide – with the debut of a painted mural and multi-dimensional textile install by local artist and founder of L.A.S. Collective, Lisa Soltis. Aligning with the property’s ever-evolving art and design community of retailers, Buckhead Village joins Jamestown’s Ponce City Market (Atlanta), Industry City (Brooklyn), Raleigh Iron Works (Raleigh), and Groot Handlesgebeouw (Rotterdam, Netherlands) properties that have already implemented the program.

“The Collision Project is an important element of our placemaking program that activates our properties as canvases for creative expression,” said Michael Phillips, President of Jamestown. “Lisa Soltis’ mural and textile sculpture at Buckhead Village will enliven the streetscape and add a new layer of experiential art to the property.”

A mixed media artist with over two decades of experience in art and design, Lisa specializes in leading mixed media projects and installations for the experiential event and marketing industry. Tapping into her passion for two-dimensional art combined with her extensive experience with photography, ceramics, mixed media sculpture, and jewelry, Lisa sets out to create tactile and textured pieces that viewers can touch, walk beneath and around, and be fully immersed into a one-of-a-kind, captivating experience.

Breathing new life onto the walls of Buckhead Village’s popular gathering space, The Veranda, the towering 13-foot mural creates a tactile and immersive experience, aiming to dismantle society’s perception of how to view art with a purposeful combination of material elements, new age techniques, and playful movement. The mural – composed of materials that wear and weather mixed with layers of paint, wood, and fibers – will take viewers on a journey through Soltis’ love of pattern and energizing color stories while utilizing repurposed and foraged materials to tell a greater story.

In an effort to expand and enhance the audience’s visual interpretation, Soltis has taken the mural beyond its walls and extended it into a suspended sculpture that accentuates the structure through the use of spalted red oak, vintage military strapping, antique hardware, repurposed ripped fabrics, and various cotton ropes and recycled fibers. While each piece of the sculpture has a slightly different recipe, Soltis’ use of weaving and braiding techniques across the aerial elements ensures each piece stands out in juxtaposition against one another while also blending harmoniously back to the murals roots.

“This installation is a passion project that has allowed me to tap back into some of my most pivotal roots in product experimentation,” said Soltis. “The aerial elements are as if the prints and patterns of the mural came alive in 3D form. A two-dimensional interpretation just wasn’t enough. The energy of the paint on the wall needed to take on another form, and I’m really excited for everyone to experience it.”

The new mural and installation is now on view at Buckhead Village. Just in time for the property’s celebration of Atlanta Art Week, the reveal kicks off a series of art and design-related events across the property that will begin on October 7, including a signature “Culture in Motion” Gallery Stroll & Concert event set to take place on the property from 2-9pm.

Buckhead Village will continue to invest in local artists through The Collision Project, with plans to rotate art outside of The Veranda on an ongoing basis. To learn more about the Collision Project, visit www.collisionproject.com and follow @collisonproject
