Metro Atlanta Basin Advisory Council Sign Ups

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, May 16th, 2024

The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (Metro Water District) is seeking interested residents to serve on the six Basin Advisory Councils that help develop and implement water resource plans for the region. The councils provide valuable input by representing the wide variety of stakeholders that rely on the region’s water resources. The Metro Water District will soon begin work on the 2027 update to the Water Resource Management Plan and is looking for voices from diverse interest groups to participate in this process.

The six councils represent the major basins within the Metro Water District planning region: Chattahoochee, Coosa/Etowah, Flint, Ocmulgee, Oconee, and Lake Lanier. The Metro Water District encourages any interested community members to apply — as well as persons who represent environmental, recreation, civic group, power/natural gas, business, urban agriculture, academia, development, neighborhood, media, or water resource industry interests.

Individuals must reside within the river basin of the council for which they apply. The Metro Water District is specifically looking for individuals who live in one of the following 15 counties: Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale.

Members serve two-year terms and may be reappointed for additional terms. Councils hold regular quarterly meetings but may also hold special meetings as needed to provide input on Metro Water District activities and actions.

The application for Basin Advisory Council membership is available at www.northgeorgiawater.org/bac. The deadline to apply is May 20, 2024.  For more information, contact the Metro Water District at 470.378.1551 or [email protected].
