The City of Atlanta is a recipient of a $16 million grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the country. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the grant as part of the competitive and highly popular Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, which represents a larger $1.8 billion investment supporting 148 projects nationwide.

The RAISE grant funds in Atlanta will significantly enhance connectivity and safety around one of Atlanta’s newest signature additions, Westside Park. Included within the scope is the planning and construction of multi-use paths, buffered cycle tracks, sidewalk improvements, ADA bus enhancements, lighting and stormwater updates. The project will encompass key areas along Johnson Road, West Marietta Street, Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, Brady Avenue and 10th Street.

“We are enthusiastic about what this means for one of our fastest growing neighborhoods," said Mayor Andre Dickens. "By delivering over 3.1 miles of multimodal improvements in and around Westside Park, we will be able to promote more convenient transportation options for all, while creating a vibrant urban environment.”

The RAISE program is a keystone of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, prioritizing the rebuilding and repairing of critical infrastructure. The selected projects support diverse community initiatives of local and regional significance.

Councilmember Dustin Hillis, representing District 10, added “I am thrilled that the City of Atlanta has been awarded the $16 million RAISE Grant. The project, in partnership with the Upper Westside CID, will connect neighborhoods and greatly improve the corridor between Westside Park and Georgia Tech, increasing access and safety for all users here in Northwest Atlanta.”

Councilmember Byron Amos, representing Council District 3, said “This direct investment from the Biden-Harris Administration will help create more sidewalks, paths and increased lighting around one of our newest jewels on the Westside, the Westside Park. This administration is showing that yes, America is back, and they are ready to finish the job for the American people.”

Construction on this project is slated to begin January 2028. To learn more about the RAISE 2024 Award Recipients, please visit:https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/investing-america-biden-harris-administration-announces-18-billion-infrastructure
