The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, Inc. (DSO) announces music educator and arts management leader Catherine MacGregor as its new Executive Director.
“From her experience managing a significant arts venue and championing donor engagement to her own music mastery, education and experience, Catherine is a terrific addition to the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra as we move toward our 60thanniversary,” says Dr. Paul Bhasin, DSO’s Music Director & Conductor. “Her enthusiastic advocacy on behalf of the Orchestra is already apparent.”
MacGregor is an Atlanta-based violinist and teaches music history at Kennesaw State University. She is formerly the Manager of Donor Engagement for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where she helped develop and implement a comprehensive donor benefits program as the Orchestra ushered in a new era with the appointment of its fifth Music Director, Nathalie Stutzmann.
“Having played in the DSO’s first violin section, I have a particular appreciation for this organization and its impact on the community,” MacGregor says. “I look forward to leveraging my experience and passion for the organization as we continue to provide ready community access to live performance and music education.”
She earned her B.A. in Music, Summa Cum Laude, from Emory University, as well as an Arts Management Certificate from Emory’s Goizueta Business School. MacGregor earned her M.M. in Violin Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She continues to perform for weddings and community events as a soloist and as part of ensembles. In addition to having been a volunteer member of DSO’s first violin section, she is a founding board member of the Decatur Fine Arts Academy.
