Atlanta’s favorite destination for play energizes children with stop-motion dance parties, cinematic sound adventures and animation innovations

Children’s Museum of Atlanta brings an innovative array of educational adventures and family fun this August! The Stop Motion Dance Party invites children to dance on stage while learning about stop-motion animation by using their bodies to stop, move and groove. The Science Bar encourages exploration of foley sound effects, and the Art Studio teaches youngsters how to craft thaumatropes, opening their eyes to the mechanics of filmmaking and animation. Jane’s Innovation Station teaches how to design and animate characters, bringing them to life in the Animationlandexhibit, which continues to inspire creativity and teach animation fundamentals. Continuing the animation educational theme, storytimes featured are "Mary Blair’s Unique Flair" and "Cut!: How Lotte Reiniger and a Pair of Scissors Revolutionized Animation."

August Programming

At the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, little ones can join the Stop Motion Dance Party and explore how cinematic sound effects are made at the Science Bar. In the Art Studio, children create optical toys called thaumatropes, considered to be the gateway to film-making and animation. Jane’s Innovation Station offers the opportunity to craft moveable puppets, bringing them to life through imagination. The Museum also showcases dramatic readings about influential figures in the animation industry.
