Happy Tails Pet Therapy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching lives by animal-assisted interactions, is thrilled to announce a new Platinum Sponsorship from Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and the Piedmont Healthcare Foundation. This generous support will allow Happy Tails to continue its organizational mission throughout the community.
Happy Tails Pet Therapy's dedicated team of certified therapy animals and their volunteer handlers bring joy, comfort and stress relief to patients and staff at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Studies have shown that interacting with therapy animals can lower blood pressure, decrease anxiety and improve mood
Happy Tails members and their therapy dogs began visiting Piedmont Atlanta Hospital in January 2019 in almost every patient care area. They make four (4) visits to the Hospital every month, visiting multiple areas and departments. They also have a monthly visit to the Piedmont West Infusion Center. Every team has a Team Leader and is escorted by a Hospital chaperone. The Piedmont team currently has are seventeen (17) Happy Tails members. After spending time with the dogs, the most common reaction from a patient is, “You made my day.” Ample time is allotted for staff members, like the nurses, to pet the dogs during each visit.
“We are so thankful to Piedmont and the Foundation for their generous donation,” says Jerry Coker, the Facility Coordinator for Happy Tails Pet Therapy. “We’ve been coming to Piedmont for 5 years, and we just can’t thank the folks at Piedmont enough for all their love for the dogs and their appreciation for Happy Tails.”
“We can’t imagine our life at Piedmont without the Happy Tails team,” says Pam Redman, Director of Patient Experience.
