Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, August 13th, 2024

- Hotel Granada, the meticulously restored historic gem at 1302 W. Peachtree St NW in the heart of Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood, officially opens its doors today after a two-year top-to-bottom restoration and modernization. Just steps from world-renowned museums, the lush greenspaces of Piedmont Park, prestigious universities like SCAD Atlanta and Georgia Tech and a bustling business district, the 100-year-old property offers a sophisticated respite for all who enter through its Spanish colonial archways.

“We are thrilled to reintroduce this iconic landmark as Hotel Granada, where classic Southern inspirations mix with an old-world European feel to create an entirely new energy,” shares Alfonce McKinney, General Manager. “We are grateful to our Midtown neighbors for their support during this careful renovation and cannot wait to welcome everyone in to enjoy a drink at Pom Court or their first stay in one of our beautifully appointed guest rooms.”

Originally built as the Granada Apartments, the property underwent a complete transformation to usher in a new era as Hotel Granada. The historic redevelopment was led by developers Monomoy Property Ventures and Scarp Ridge Capital Partners, in partnership with Aparium Hotel Group, a world-class hotel operator with a unique focus on one-of-a-kind, independent properties and a commitment to community connectivity.  Hotel Granada boasts design features reminiscent of its storied past along with thoughtful programming to set the tone for an experience uniquely its own. An all-day dining destination, Pom Court, and forthcoming cocktail lounge bring inventive shared plates and drinks to hotel guests and in-the-know locals looking for their new go-to spot for breakfast, social hour, and evening food and cocktails.

WHISPERS OF THE PAST, EYES SET ON THE PRESENT

Celebrating over a century of history, Hotel Granada incorporates curated design elements across its 120 guest rooms, public spaces and dining outlets. Architect Ken Gowland of MetroStudio ensured the preservation of the building’s Spanish colonial architecture, including stucco walls and a red-tiled roof, evoking the charm of a European inn amidst modern skyscrapers. Historic touches like the refurbished fountain set at the center of the Crepe Myrtle-shaded courtyard and an original inlay tile threshold bearing the name ‘Granada,’ serve as reminders of the hotel’s heritage. Atlanta symbols, such as the Fox Theatre marquee, the 1996 Olympic torch and Crepe Myrtle blossoms, adorn custom corridor wallpaper and subtly nod to the city’s vibrant culture.

Stepping off of West Peachtree Street into the lobby, guests are welcomed by the bohemian-Spanish ambiance created by designer Cameron Carr. Shades of green, blue and terracotta adorn textiles, floor coverings and decorative accents, while bespoke wooden furniture adds a Southern touch, enhancing the homey atmosphere.

WHERE COMFORT MEETS CULTURE

Each guest room option, from Double Queen and Deluxe King to Granada Studio King and the Mosaic suite, offers plush bedding and velvet adorned seating, cozy bathrobes and slippers for ultimate relaxation. Leaning into its historical European character and charming quirks, few of the 120 guestroom layouts are the same, leading to a unique stay at each visit to Hotel Granada. Elevated amenities include Grown Alchemist bath products, complimentary Wi-Fi and a bar stocked with curated beverages and snacks. Larger suites like the Oasis Studio, Piedmont and Mosaic feature additional living and dining space.

In addition to Atlanta-based artisans like  Katie Troisi Pottery, whose emerald catch-all bowls can be found in guestrooms, the art program at Hotel Granada is rooted in an exceptional collaboration with the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design and SCAD Art Sales (SCAD), the university's premier art consultancy and curatorial service. Renowned globally for their preeminence in art and design, SCAD has meticulously curated Hotel Granada’s permanent collection of public space art, infusing the hotel with a vibrant and dynamic aesthetic featuring a roster of esteemed SCAD alumni artists including Liz Robb, Abigail Chase Miller, Angela Burson, Julu and Abel Macias. In addition to Hotel Granada's permanent collection, SCAD Art Sales will also curate a diverse selection of public space pieces, ensuring a continually evolving artistic atmosphere.

POM COURT DELIGHTS

The commitment to hospitality and community carries through to Pom Court, the hotel’s all-day restaurant housed throughout the outdoor central courtyard and main lobby. Brimming with shareable plates and flavors reminiscent of traditional Southern and Spanish cuisine, the menu at Pom Court offers inspired options for busy travelers as well as those looking to unwind with a leisurely meal, no matter the time of day.

For breakfast, diners can enjoy everything from light fare such as a selection of scones featuring the flavors of the season to a hearty Tortilla Española, a traditional Spanish-style omelet setting fluffy eggs, seasoned potatoes and onion as the stars of the dish. Transitioning to the all-day menu, items like Deviled Eggs & Chicken Chicharron marry the flavors of Spain with classic Southern party fare and are complemented by bites like Garlic Prawns and Cheddar Grit Fries, Pimento Cheese and Patatas Bravas with romesco salsa and saffron aioli. The convergence of cuisines continues with handheld options like a trio of Empanadas tucked with beef short rib, confit chicken and vegetables, and lighter options like the Green Gazpacho featuring the region’s signature green tomatoes and the Pom Court Salad with Manchego, pomegranate and Marcona almonds. Meals end on a sweet note with a daily selection of cake, pie or Seasonal Cobbler. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Jaime Cubias, acclaimed for his culinary expertise in Atlanta and beyond.

Bringing fresh offerings to Midtown’s beverage scene, the restaurant’s spirits program is inclusive of refreshing seasonal creations like the Tecktonic with gin, white port and cucumber; frozen favorites, like the aptly named Pom Pom, mixing tequila, watermelon, pomegranate, white tea and fresh mint; and a shareable, large-format Pour Things served in a porrón pitcher with Basque cider, blanc vermouth, manzanilla, ginger and lime oil. Non-alcoholic selections include the Team Spirit, combining white tea, watermelon, pomegranate and rose water, and the Espresso Julep, shaking lively espresso with pineapple-sorghum syrup and mint. Later this fall, guests can look forward to the opening of a speakeasy-style cocktail lounge tucked beneath the hotel, featuring an intimate club-level escape and a refined menu of late-night bites and sultry cocktails showcasing local liquor brands, seasonal flavors and twists on classic beverages.
