Silicon Valley of the South – Atlanta #6 for Startup Friendliness

Not all U.S. cities are created equal when it comes to offering the best environment for startups to thrive. With this in mind, CoworkingMag researchers analyzed 108 U.S. cities across 13 key metrics in order to find the best U.S. cities for startups.

The metrics in our analysis span from number of startups, accelerators and incubators to angel groups and venture capital opportunities, to office lease and coworking prices, among others.

Here are our main findings:

  • Atlanta took the sixth spot nationally for startup friendliness, representing the South in top 10 alongside Austin and Miami.

  • The city ranked first nationally for coworking space density – 18.23 spaces per 100,000 people.

  • Atlanta ties with Chicago and Boston for fourth place in number of accelerators, with a total of four.

  • In the availability of talent category, Atlanta ranks 16th for its share of population with a bachelor's degree – 52.9%.

  • A total of 16 startups were created in Atlanta in 2023, supported by seven venture capital firms.

  • Nationally, San Francisco snatched the first place, with California also being represented by Los Angeles in the 3rd spot.
