Atlanta Metropolitan State College Set to Celebrate The 50th Anniversary Founders Day Convocation

Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC ) will hold a landmark celebration in honor of its 50th anniversary. The Founders Day event, set to take place on Wednesday, September 25, at 12:00 pm in the Student Activity Center Conference Room on the Atlanta Metropolitan State College campus.

AMSC will commemorate five decades of educational excellence and community impact with a series of exciting and heartfelt activities.

The festivities will feature a comprehensive pictorial history showcasing the school’s remarkable journey from its origins as a two-year community college to its current status as an esteemed institution offering baccalaureate degrees. This visual journey will highlight key milestones, achievements, and the growth of Atlanta Metropolitan State College over the years.

In addition to the historical display, attendees will be treated to a variety of engaging performances, including:

  • Local High School Choir: Enjoy a performance by the talented choir from Maynard Jackson High School whose uplifting melodies will set the tone for the celebration.

  • Inspirational Dance: Witness an inspirational dance performance that reflects the spirit and progress of the school through the art of movement with the Ray of Hope Church Dance Company.

  • Mascot Reveal: Be among the first to see the unveiling of our new school mascot, a symbol of our vibrant and evolving community.

The highlight of the event will be the Founders Day Address delivered by University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue whose leadership and vision have greatly contributed to the growth and success of our community. 

The Board of Regents named Dr. Sonny Perdue the 14th chancellor of the University System of Georgia effective April 1, 2022. He oversees 26 public colleges and universities with a more than $11.5 billion annual budget, 48,000 faculty and staff and more than 344,000 students.

The Georgia Public Library Service and the Georgia Archives are also part of USG, which has been recognized nationally for its efforts in cost savings and student attainment. The number of students annually earning degrees has increased 36% since 2011. And through support from initiatives such as Affordable Learning Georgia, students save over $49 million annually using no-cost and low-cost online educational resources.
