Georgia’s largest county both by population and economic impact, has taken a leading role in the development of a comprehensive regional workforce plan. This plan, published by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), is the result of collaboration among various workforce development agencies across the metro Atlanta region. It addresses the workforce needs of the 10-county metro area, which includes Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties. The Regional Workforce Plan is currently accepting review and public comment from stakeholders and residents across Metro Atlanta. 

The collaboration involved the five Local Workforce Development Boards (LWDBs) in the region, each contributing to the creation of both regional and local workforce plans. ARC, serving as the fiscal and administrative agent for the Atlanta Regional Workforce Development Board (ARWDB), has overseen the publication of these plans.  As a key partner in this initiative, Fulton County’s involvement is significant due to its large population and economic influence within the state. The county’s participation ensures that the regional workforce plan effectively reflects the needs and opportunities of the largest job market in Georgia.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) requires the regional and local plans to outline tailored employment and training systems that meet the specific needs of regional economies. They address the needs of diverse learners and workers, including those with employment barriers, and align with the skill requirements of regional employers. The regional workforce plan will guide workforce development efforts for the next four years, aiming to enhance job-driven workforce systems and support economic growth throughout the region. 

Fulton County's involvement is crucial given its central role in the state’s economy.
