The Cardiac Acute Care Unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of only two pediatric stepdown units in the country to receive a Beacon Award for Excellence as a Gold-Level designation, recognized for showing staff-driven greatness in sustained unit performance and enhanced patient outcomes that exceed national benchmarks.

According to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the Beacon Award signifies exceptional patient care and healthy work environments — recognizing unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and practices.

“This designation signifies exceptional care that focuses on patient outcomes, and a positive and supportive work environment,” said Becky Johnson, Manager of Cardiac Acute Care Unit clinical operations at Children’s. “Every team member should be proud of the hard work, compassion and dedication they have provided to our patients, families and one another.”

With over 1,700 patients cared for last year, Children’s CACU is one of the busiest in the country.
