The City of Atlanta has been awarded $528,330 through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, a cornerstone of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. This funding underscores Mayor Andre Dickens’ commitment to making Atlanta a national leader in climate resilience and achieving 100% clean energy by 2035.

“Atlanta is recognized nationally for leading the way in climate resilience, and this funding brings us one step closer to achieving our clean energy goals,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “By lowering energy costs and improving efficiency in public facilities, we are building a more sustainable city that works for all of our communities.”

The grant will support improvements at key municipal sites, including a wellness center, a fire station, and the historic Sweet Auburn Municipal Market, where vendors currently face challenges with high energy costs. These projects will include energy assessments, retrofits, benchmarking and certifications, while also establishing a standard software platform to optimize energy data collection and management across City facilities.

This announcement follows the Municipal Market’s recent 100th anniversary celebration and a recent $1.26 million boost for vendor booth upgrades, enhanced security, small business grants and merchant training. Together, these investments reflect the City’s commitment to strengthening historic landmarks and closing the food access gap while advancing its sustainability goals.
