Thursday, November 14th, 2024
The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) is thrilled to announce that David Tann, founder and CEO of the award-winning creative agency Tantrum, has been named its first-ever Designer-in-Residence. This appointment marks the launch of MODA’s new Designer-in-Residence program, which brings innovative design practices to the public through curated programming over a five-month residency.
Tann, a metro Atlanta native and distinguished designer with more than 20 years of experience, will design a series of unique programs that explore the intersections of design, technology, culture and social impact. The residency will offer a range of workshops and events that are rooted in Tann's creative philosophy and designed to inspire meaningful conversations within the community.
“I am honored to be named MODA's first Designer-in-Residence," said Tann. "Being invited to collaborate with an institution as respected as MODA, both within the Atlanta community and the broader design world, is an incredible opportunity. As the only museum in the Southeast devoted exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design, MODA plays a unique role in shaping how our community understands and values design. I am excited to help further this mission by creating programs that connect people, challenge perceptions, and inspire change. I believe the possibilities are endless for what we can achieve together.”
Tann’s residency coincides with MODA’s newly-installed exhibition, CHARACTERS: Type in Action, which explores the powerful role typography has played in social justice movements throughout history, highlighting the intersection of design and activism. Tann served as the moderator for the opening night reception panel, facilitating a discussion with designer Tre’ Seals and his exhibition co-creators on their creative processes, inspirations and the desired impact of their work.
“We are beyond excited to welcome David Tann as MODA’s inaugural Designer-in-Residence. David’s innovative vision and deep commitment to using design as a tool for social change align perfectly with MODA’s mission. His dynamic approach will spark new conversations within our community, encouraging people to see design not just as an art form, but as a means to create meaningful impact in the world,” said Laura Flusche, MODA’s executive director, of Tann’s selection.
Tann’s career includes work with global brands such as Bath & Body Works, Kohl's, Abercrombie & Fitch, OshKosh B’gosh and the Atlanta Hawks. Since founding Tantrum in 2018, Tann has continued to make a significant impact across industries, including sports, education, engineering, tech, retail, nonprofits, entertainment and the arts. His innovative approach to branding and passion for creative integrity have earned him numerous accolades, including being named Marketer of the Year by the Atlanta Chapter of the American Marketing Association in 2021 and the Atlanta Business League’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2023.
