Delbar To Open New Buckhead Location on Monday, November 18
Monday, November 18th, 2024
Delbar, Atlanta’s two-time Michelin-recommended Middle Eastern restaurant and bar, announces that their Buckhead location is set to open this Monday, November 18. The new restaurant joins Delbar’s other locations in Atlanta’s Inman Park neighborhood and Alpharetta, Georgia.
At the corner of Peachtree Road and West Paces Ferry Road, the new location will be open seven days a week for dinner and weekend brunch with lunch launching next month. Guests can expect the simple and comforting Middle Eastern dishes Delbar is known for, many of which are drawn from owner and native Iranian Fares Kargar’s family recipes.
The new 6,000-square-foot restaurant is inspired by the countryside in Iran where Kargar’s grandmother resides and features 16-foot ceilings, light, earth-toned walls, antique textiles, natural finishes and rustic wooden touches, and lush greenery draped throughout. There is a main dining room and indoor bar as well as a covered outdoor patio and bar that will host live entertainment on weekends. A hidden private dining room seats up to 16 people, and a mezzanine private event space overlooking the dining room seats up to 40 people.
The brunch and dinner menus include a collaboration of favorite and new dishes from Kargar, Culinary Director Jonathan Rohland, and new Buckhead Chef de Cuisine Jordan Melrose. Classic favorites include shareable ‘Spreads’ such as Hummus garnished with crispy chickpea & sumac; ‘Mazze’ (small bites) like Omani Shrimp with Black Tiger shrimp, Persian dried lime, sour orange & herbs; ‘Meats’ like The Honey Harissa Chicken with semi boneless Murray’s chicken, kohlrabi pear slaw & pickled onions and Hanger Steak Kabab with biber salcasi pepper paste marinate, peppers, onion, saffron, yogurt & tahini sauce; and ‘Greens & Grains” such as Sabzi Polo with scallions, parsley, cilantro & fenugreek basmati rice and the new dishes like the Lamb & Baghali Tahchin with lamb shoulder, fava bean, egg, yogurt, onion & basmati rice and Roasted Carrot Salad with rainbow carrots, ras el hanout, pickled raisins, candied pistachio & Bulgarian feta.
The brunch menu features savory dishes like Shroom Peynirli Pide with oyster mushrooms, fried onion & kasseri cheese, the Turkish-style Breakfast Platter that feeds 4 people and includes labneh, halvah, feta cheese, radish, jam, honeycomb, dates, fruit, butter, soft boiled egg, sarshir, Nutella, fresh herbs, olives, raw vegetable & walnuts, and bakery items such as baklava with walnut, phyllo dough, pistachio & orange blossom.
New dessert dishes include Tahini & Honey Soft Serve with a “nutty” base, pure honey, sohan crumble & salted caramel, and Persian Tea Flan with caramel, simply poached quince, whipped creme, crunchy bubbled sugar, lemon & orange zest, pistachio crumble & rose petal. Housemade condiments, made-from-scratch taftoun bread and other bakery items will also be offered.
The Buckhead location features fresh, new cocktails with two different menus available at the indoor and outdoor bars. The beloved beverage program is centered around Middle Eastern flavors. The standout selection includes vibrant cocktails crafted with ingredients and spices imported directly from Iran like fresh barberries, cardamom, persian dried lime and sour cherries. The beverage list also features draft beer, Mediterranean natural wines and refreshing sharbats, non-alcoholic drinks made from fruit and flowers.
“Our team is thrilled to finally bring Delbar to Buckhead,” said Kargar. “This beautiful new space will enable us to offer more outdoor dining, live entertainment, new menu items and unique private events.”
Translating to ‘heart, captured’ in Farsi, Delbar is a love letter to the influential dishes that shaped Fares’ youth and the women in his life who instilled in him a deep appreciation for Middle Eastern cooking.
Hailing from Gorgan, Iran, Kargar grew up in the kitchen alongside his mother, aunts and grandmother. When first developing Delbar, he recounted his family’s regular get-togethers––often pushing 20 to 30 guests––where brothers and sisters, cousins and parents would gather round as Kargar’s grandmother dished warm, toasted bread straight from her tandoor oven.
At 17, Fares left Iran to seek a higher education and worked in Turkey as a refugee, broadening his understanding of Turkish cuisine and sharpening his culinary skills. He moved to the U.S. shortly after and earned a degree in hospitality from Georgia State University, all while working at restaurants around the city. At 31, Fares brought his dream of opening his own restaurant to reality. Today, Fares owns and operates Delbar in Inman Park and Alpharetta, Georgia, and Bibi, a fast-casual concept, at Ponce City Market.
