Atlanta Ballet 2, the esteemed training ensemble of Atlanta Ballet, will present a dazzling one-hour production of The Swan Princess, featuring choreography by internationally acclaimed choreographer Bruce Wells, for three special shows on one weekend in February at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. This captivating family ballet, suitable for children ages four and up, offers a magical introduction to the world of ballet.

The performance will take place February 15-16 -- 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm performances Saturday and 1:00 pm matinee on Sunday -- offering a chance for audiences to experience the mystery, romance and elegance of this timeless tale.

For those new to this particular story and show, The Swan Princess is essentially a simplified version of the well-known Swan Lake ballet, with the same core fairy tale plot elements about a princess cursed to be a swan who breaks the spell when she finds true love. The story explores the power of love over evil and features beautiful swan costumes and choreography depicting the swan-like movements of the princess. With its streamlined narrative and the beauty of its sets, costumes and movements, it provides a stirring introduction to ballet for young audiences.

Renowned choreographer Bruce Wells, known for his work with prominent ballet companies including The Connecticut Ballet, Boston Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, brings this heartwarming story to life. His work has been celebrated across the globe, and this production offers a fresh and engaging version of The Swan Princess tailored for younger audiences with narration to guide them through the performance.

The Swan Princess is a magical story I’m thrilled to share with Atlanta audiences,” says Wells. “I hope this production sparks a love for ballet in children and families and provides a beautiful first experience for younger audiences discovering the art form.”

Atlanta Ballet 2, which represents the highest level of training at the Centre for Dance Education, provides dancers with the opportunity to perform on stage, building their skills and preparing them for professional careers. This performance marks a wonderful opportunity for the next generation of dancers to showcase their talent to the community.

On Sunday, February 16, at 2:30 p.m., following the matinee performance, Atlanta Ballet will host a kid-friendly Royal Tea Party with light bites, sweet treats and activities, including whimsical face painting, special moments with the dancers, arts & crafts, and more. Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite regal attire for a day of special memories. Tickets are required for all attendees, regardless of age, and all proceeds from ticket sales will support the Centre for Dance Education.
