Pigtails & Crewcuts, the 80-plus-unit kids salon franchise that offers quality haircuts for boys and girls aged zero to 12, is closing out 2024 on a high note. With a record number of franchise signings, an expanded support team and increased community engagement, the brand continues to establish itself as a leader in the children’s hair salon industry.

This year marked 14 franchise signings, the largest number of awards in Pigtails & Crewcuts’ history, with a significant portion of the signings coming from existing franchise owners expanding their portfolios.

“We had more franchises awarded this year than any other year,” said Michelle Holliman, Vice President of Franchise Development. “About half of them were awarded to existing franchise owners looking to open additional units. To me, that’s a strong validation of our system. We have a healthy franchise system where franchisees are making money and are happy. We’re working together effectively, and when prospects go through the validation process, franchisees are always happy to share their experiences."

In 2024, Pigtails & Crewcuts grew their team of Franchise Support Specialists to four, welcoming Heather Hardy, Tim Massey and Joe Demkovich, each of whom brought their own valuable experience to the franchise. These additions strengthen the company’s ability to support franchisees in areas such as training, mentorship and ongoing operational guidance.

The brand continued its expansion in key markets, opening its eighth salon in Florida and approaching a major milestone of 100 total units. Hot markets remain a focus, including Lakeland and Miami, Florida; Indianapolis, Indiana; Des Moines, Iowa; Baltimore, Maryland; Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota; Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri; Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska; Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio; Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah.

This year, Pigtails & Crewcuts also strengthened its industry presence by attending key franchise conferences, including FranCamp in Miami, where the team gained valuable insights and built strategic partnerships to drive future growth. Additionally, the brand committed to increasing its marketing budget for 2025 to amplify brand awareness and franchise development efforts.

“We have some pretty aggressive goals for next year,” said Holliman. “We want to do 20 units, potentially. By increasing our marketing span, we're going to be able to get that. We already have six openings in the first quarter of next year, so we are really excited for 2025.”

Beyond expansion, Pigtails & Crewcuts launched strategic initiatives, including a new website that highlights hot markets and franchise opportunities. The company also rolled out community-driven programs, such as holiday partnerships with Toys for Tots and local family assistance efforts, demonstrating a commitment to giving back at both the corporate and franchisee levels.

In addition to expanding its footprint, the brand remains focused on finding the right franchisee candidates to grow with. The brand appeals to parents who understand the needs of children and families, as well as those looking for a career change from corporate America to achieve better work-life balance and flexibility. The franchise has also seen an uptick in multi-unit operators who aren’t satisfied with just one location.

“We really focus on finding people who align with our core values,” said Holliman. “We want to ensure it’s the right match for them and for us. It’s all about coming together, and we’re excited about where we’re headed."
