AT&T and Compudopt provided Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School refurbished laptops today to distribute to students and families.

The computers, funded by an AT&T contribution, were given to Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School students and families as part of AT&T’s support of the College Football Playoff Foundation and its Extra Yard for Teachers initiative.

“At Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, we believe in empowering our students and giving them tools they need to soar to new heights,” said Kimberly Gibbs, Principal, Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. “Having access to digital resources is a critical component in how our students learn, discover new possibilities and apply knowledge in the real world. With AT&T and the College Football Playoff Foundation’s support, together, we are able to connect more students to the digital tools they need to learn and excel.”

“Ensuring that our students have access to the technology they need is critical to their education and future success. By equipping MLK Middle School students and families with laptops, we are taking an important step in closing the digital divide and creating more opportunities for young people in our community,” said Atlanta City Councilmember Jason Winston. “I’m grateful for AT&T’s investment in our students and proud to support initiatives that empower our next generation with the resources needed to succeed today and tomorrow.”

"The College Football Playoff Foundation is honored to partner with AT&T and Compudopt to support Atlanta Public School families with these laptops,” said Britton Banowsky, Executive Director College Football Playoff Foundation. "There is no doubt that access to technology is one of the key elements in ensuring student success in the classroom."

In addition to laptops, students and families also received meals provided by Chick-fil-A, Inc.

“At Chick-fil-A, Inc., serving others is at the heart of who we are and everything we do. We are honored to collaborate with AT&T to provide nourishing meals for students and families at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School,” said Carol Waddy, Director of Community Affairs, Chick-fil-A, Inc. “We believe that a strong future starts with both nourishment and opportunity, and we are proud to serve the Atlanta community in this way.”

This effort is part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.

“At AT&T, we are committed to closing the digital divide and ensuring students have access to the tools needed to succeed in today’s connected world. By providing young learners with laptops and essential digital resources, we are helping advance pathways to knowledge and further opening doors to opportunity,” said Riley Blount, President, AT&T Georgia. “We are proud to collaborate with Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, the College Football Playoff Foundation, Compudopt and Chick-fil-A to empower students and strengthen the communities we serve.”
