Phipps Plaza, Buckhead’s reimagined modern mixed-use development, is thrilled to announce it has been recognized as a U.S. Gold Winner in the 2024 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Global Design & Development Awards in the mixed-use category. The awards promote outstanding achievement in the design and development of retail and mixed-use properties and design of retail stores around the globe.
ICSC honored Phipps Plaza with the Gold Award based on creatively transforming its space from a traditional shopping center into a reimagined, vibrant mixed-use destination. The project was also awarded the Sustainable Commendation for committing to reducing its environmental impact and achieving a LEED Silver certification for the One Phipps Plaza office tower.
Originally developed in 1969 and expanded in 1992 with a third level, Simon redeveloped the property by replacing Belk as the mall’s north anchor with three buildings, adding One Phipps Plaza office tower, Nobu Hotel & Restaurant, Life Time® luxury athletic club and the Food Hall at Phipps Plaza. The center boasts dozens of new luxury brands added to the impressive lineup of retail stores including Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Brunello Cucinelli, Celine, Etro, Fendi, Hermes and Zegna
“The Gold Award from ICSC highlights the success of a project that brought highly sought-after, traffic-driving brands to our property, including the fourth Nobu Hotel in the U.S., a Life Time athletic country club and a food hall serving as a destination for local concepts,” said Lindsey Jones, area director of marketing for Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square. “The purpose behind this redevelopment was to create a destination experience that marries fashion, dining and lifestyle amenities into one. We are proud to have our hard work acknowledged and seek to continue evolving to meet modern consumers’ needs and including our local Buckhead community.”
The redevelopment project tripled the site density by replacing a 170,000-square-foot anchor and over three levels of structured parking, with the mixed-use development totaling 646,000 square feet. The buildings surround The Green, an outdoor public green space, serving as the heart of the community, integrating high street retail and 13-story Class A office space with fine dining, entertainment and lifestyle amenities.
